Philippa, Filippa, Phillipa, with lesser common spellings Filipa and even Philipe, is a given name derived from the Greek word Philippos or Filippos, meaning lover of horses or a friend of horses. The compound consists of either the word philos (dear, loved, loving, friend) or filos (friend), and ippos (horse).

The root word Phil comes from the Greek verb philein meaning "TO LOVE".

Horses are often used as symbols of the body and one’s physical health. According to Carl Jung, the horse is a creature of success and self-actualization, a symbol of personal power.

His theory is that dreams reveal more than they conceal. Dreams are a natural expression of our imagination, and they don't need to be interpreted for them to perform their function. Instead, he suggested that dreams are doing the work of integrating our conscious and unconscious lives; and called it the process of individuation.

The horse symbolizes many different things throughout the world, and one of them is freedom. The power to change and choose anything in your life, with your natural gifts.

Many cultures attribute the four elements - earth, fire, water, and air - to the horse.

It's funny when you think about it, that I was given a name behind the meaning of love and freedom - something we all want in our lives the most.

We've come a long way, this blog and I. Six years ago, when I first started blogging, I was a completely different person than I am today. The name I gave this blog - You are the poet, was something that was supposed to remind me to write my life's poems. It didn't matter what others thought of "my poems",  but what I felt when I was writing them - I had to be fond of, tending to them.

Greeks have 6 types of love, among which is Philautia, love of the self. Aristotle realized there were two types of Philautia; one was an unhealthy variety associated with narcissism, where you became self-obsessed and focused on personal fame and fortune, and the other, a healthier version which enhanced your wider capacity to love. The idea was that if you like yourself and feel secure in yourself, you will have plenty of love to give to others. Or, as Aristotle put it -  “All friendly feelings for others are an extension of a man’s feelings for himself.

For a while, I've had this feeling like it's time to move further, into something new. I no longer need to be reminded that I have a choice, and the courage to make it. This blog, like a loyal companion, will be moving forward with me, which is why it had to have a name change.

I already dug my way far into the word-forming, that I had to choose something with the same root word as my given name. The inspiration came when I received a bag of meadowsweet tea and was told that the plant was called Filipendula ulmaria. Filipendula has been derived from two words – filum, which means thread and pendulus, which means hanging.

I came across a lot of words in my search for a new blog name, some of which I thought were worth sharing, so you'll find them below along with their meanings.

Philia - love of the mind

Duende - the mysterious power of art to deeply move a person; "Heightened sense of passion."

Saudadea nostalgic longing to be near again to something or someone that is distant, or that has been loved and then lost; "The love that remains."

Serendipity - finding something good without looking for it.

With all that being said, welcome to фilipendae!

Time does fly. A year has gone by.
And what a year it was!

губа не дура . . .

Midnight, November 10th, 2019. Your 26th birthday.

Do you remember when we first met?

Two eight-year-olds on their first day at a new school. You had tomboy's hair and you rocked those maxi skirts and turtle neck sweaters, while I dressed in two size bigger all-boys' clothing and wore the brown leather jacket I disliked more than eating vegetables.

You had your pencil collections, with not a color shade missing and were the only one in class with an eraser to borrow. Your drink of choice was Sprite, and there was a time when you'd rather throw or give your drink away than use the same cup or bottle with another person.

You were different than others, and what truly made you extraordinary, is that, unlike most kids our age, you enjoyed reading books, had a killer taste in music and were pretty much down to earth (You also happened to have the best birthday parties ever!).

I liked that about you. You were cool, you were yourself, a one-of-a-kind girl and I wanted to be your friend.

You are the one who introduced me to art in all its forms and you inspired me to see things from a different perspective. Looking back at the two of us, with the weight of those teenage years on our shoulders - I don't think I would have made it without you. Yet, I never thanked you for letting me into your world...

I never thanked you for being my best friend.

We were a package deal, one didn't go without the other, and I cannot find the words to express how sorry I am for the part I played in us growing apart and letting each other go.

I wanted you to know, no matter where life takes us, or how far we are from each other – the memories of our friendship remain. Those moments we shared together, those years of our lives, echo today, at every place we once set foot, as if we left pieces of ourselves each time we stood up to our fears and grew as a person.

I still hope my dream comes true, for that sunny day to come when you, me and Terez cross paths on a rooftop in Berlin, each with her hair dyed to cover the greys, and a glass of wine in her hand, and remember the good times of our youth and how lucky we were to know friendship, as real and true,  most people never get to experience at all.

May your life be bright and may joys brighten your days with love and care, and may happiness follow the roads you take.

A kind heart like you deserves all the joy of this world.

 Happy birthday, Be.
