Midnight, November 10th, 2019. Your 26th birthday.

Do you remember when we first met?

Two eight-year-olds on their first day at a new school. You had tomboy's hair and you rocked those maxi skirts and turtle neck sweaters, while I dressed in two size bigger all-boys' clothing and wore the brown leather jacket I disliked more than eating vegetables.

You had your pencil collections, with not a color shade missing and were the only one in class with an eraser to borrow. Your drink of choice was Sprite, and there was a time when you'd rather throw or give your drink away than use the same cup or bottle with another person.

You were different than others, and what truly made you extraordinary, is that, unlike most kids our age, you enjoyed reading books, had a killer taste in music and were pretty much down to earth (You also happened to have the best birthday parties ever!).

I liked that about you. You were cool, you were yourself, a one-of-a-kind girl and I wanted to be your friend.

You are the one who introduced me to art in all its forms and you inspired me to see things from a different perspective. Looking back at the two of us, with the weight of those teenage years on our shoulders - I don't think I would have made it without you. Yet, I never thanked you for letting me into your world...

I never thanked you for being my best friend.

We were a package deal, one didn't go without the other, and I cannot find the words to express how sorry I am for the part I played in us growing apart and letting each other go.

I wanted you to know, no matter where life takes us, or how far we are from each other – the memories of our friendship remain. Those moments we shared together, those years of our lives, echo today, at every place we once set foot, as if we left pieces of ourselves each time we stood up to our fears and grew as a person.

I still hope my dream comes true, for that sunny day to come when you, me and Terez cross paths on a rooftop in Berlin, each with her hair dyed to cover the greys, and a glass of wine in her hand, and remember the good times of our youth and how lucky we were to know friendship, as real and true,  most people never get to experience at all.

May your life be bright and may joys brighten your days with love and care, and may happiness follow the roads you take.

A kind heart like you deserves all the joy of this world.

 Happy birthday, Be.
